Duffy birthday celebration

To celebrate 30 years of Duffy books in homes, Panmure bridge school has launched a celebration! For the Duffy celebration, one of our amazing teacher’s came up with a idea of making a big giant human sized Duffy for the celebration. For the big giant human sized Duffy, our art crew known as, Keira, Siniva, Me, Armani and Bethany, created and painted the Duffy. Some of our students has been helping to decorate the hall for the celebration, and it looks amazing and creative! We also had a few guest visiting our amazing school and talking about their journey of reading and informing why reading was important.

To make a real celebration, Panmure bridge school designed their own duffy boxes and made party hats. Me and my Buddy Siniva created a Google drawing of Duffy for the hole school to draw on as soon as it’s printed.

Alan Duff is known as the founder of Duffy Books in Homes and was spread to help kids who has no books at home throughout New Zealand. In 1992, Alan Duff visited a school in Hastings where he found out that majority of the children at school at the time, came from bookless homes. In need of not having any books of their own, these children wouldn’t have a lot of interest in books. So Alan wanted to do something about this. Alan knew it was important for all kids to have the opportunity to love books and to get knowing about why it’s importing to read books. Since then, more then 14 million books has been given to children just like us who known reading is a big part of our learning. For example, it helps us explore other places, build background knowledge, increases your imagination and creativity and a lot more!

In my opinion this celebration was really fun because I get to be creative of making a big giant human sized Duffy and also learning about why is reading so important!

Rosie Ruiz fakes Boston Marathon win

For this actvity, our group has readed a text about Rosie Ruiz fakes boston Marathon win. While I was reading through the text, I founded out that Rosie Ruiz took a train for a shortcut to cheat in the race and made it to the end of the race by cheating. When she made it to the end of the race everyone through she had win but not knowing that she has cheated by taking the train. Soon after were readed the text we made comments about what is our predict, What do we already know about marathons?, define words and more. For my prediction, I said ” I predcit that Rosie Ruzi may have cheated because she wanted the spotlight and also to show of her fake winning medal”.  A couple of minutes passed, we commented on other peoples comments and what they think why did Rosie Ruzi cheated and also commenting on other questions that has been there for us.

I found this activite intresting because she cheated in the race. I also found this fun because I was also learning about why she cheated.

L.I: To identify the author’s purpose

For this activity, we all looked at articles that related to the words we’ve chosen. After reading a paragraph we summarised it into 10 words and made a Google my maps with the summary, link and images included.

This activity was interesting because I was able to know what was happening in New Zealand. And making the 10 word summary was enjoyable because it limited the amount of words I had to use.

Do the Maori Wardens make a difference?

For this task, we discussed about do Maori Wardens make a difference. For our opinion on what we think is that the Maori Wardens do make a difference because they improve the wellbeing of whanau and our community in New Zealand. They guide the younger generations to do the correct thing to get a better life. They support the communities with care and positivity.

My Pepeha

A Pepeha is a Maori way of introducing about yourself. It basiclly means where are your ancestors from, when did your ancestors arrived in Nz and were did you grew up in.I found this actvity really fun beacuse I get to talk about my self infront of everybody and tell them where I grew up in.
